Google Experiments with Trending Searches and Instant Answers in Search Bar

Google has been observed testing trending search results on mobile within the Chrome app. For some users, visiting the Google homepage and tapping on the search bar reveals a list of current trending searches.

Those witnessing this test report that Google displays up to 5 suggestions for trending searches. This is not the first instance of such a feature; previously, it was seen in the Google app.

The latest test involves Google displaying trending searches directly in the mobile Chrome app. Although I have not been able to replicate this, a screenshot from Alex Chitu provides a glimpse of what it looks like in action.

Instant Answers in Google Search Bar

Instant answers in Google search are not new. It is common for Google to provide answers directly within the search results, without needing to click through to other links.

What distinguishes this recent test is that Google is delivering instant answers right in the search bar itself. Moreover, Google is providing answers for suggested searches, which a Redditor noted to be scarily accurate.

The Reddit user searched for “who owns,” and Google suggested “who owns Twitch.” This was precisely what the user was looking for. To their surprise, underneath the suggestion, an answer was displayed in large bold letters reading: Amazon.com, Inc.

From the Redditor’s screenshot, it appears they were using the Chrome browser on either an Apple laptop or desktop computer.

Once again, I have not been able to reproduce this test but will continue to monitor for any further developments.
